Is Full Sail University A Scam?

Many people ask if full sail university is a scam.

The direct answer is NO!

Why is it not a scam? The answer is easy, they do not lie about their programs. They tell you 100% up front what is required of you and what your job prospects are after graduation.
Some people do not do their homework before signing up at Full Sail and assume that they can throw some money into a Full Sail degree and get a high paying job anywhere. That is not the case most of the time.

How far you will go is based on how SMART you are and how HARD you work. An education is only a start to a career and is not the solution. It’s the beginning of a long journey that will require you to work hard and smart to create a successful career.

Is it possible some university reps may overstate the opportunities that are available for Full Sail graduates? It sure is possible, in fact, I’ve heard it happen at hundreds of colleges all over the world. It’s also possible that the prospective student is the eternal optimist and hears only the parts they want to hear about, like high rate of job placement, the success of other Full Sail graduates or the high pay that some Full Sail graduates receive.

These best case scenarios are certainly possible but just like life, nothing is guaranteed to you. If you think that because you like playing video games that a career in video game design is what you want and that throwing $75,000 at Full Sail to get a degree will launch you into the design team for Halo or Grand Theft Auto you are probably not being realistic.

The top students and the cream of the crop may graduate and jump right into the Bungie team or get to choose the next songs for Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but that is probably the exception and not the rule. Not everyone has the skills to be the best and go from college to the pros immediately, you may have to grind it out in some low level jobs, like mopping floors at a radio station, or sales at a tv station or getting coffee for the programmers that stay up for 72 hours trying to make the deadline for the new Call of Duty game.

Remember, there are only a certain number of jobs and for every great job there is probably a line with 100 people wanting it.

How do you compare to the other 99 people? Ask yourself that before you decide if Full Sail is for you.

If you excel at your program and have the talent the job you want will come eventually.

No medical staff on site no cafeteria no housing, have to rent or live near by,which also adds to cost. What are you really paying for? They show really nice equipment on site but when you start attending they change it,its only to intrigue you to join. Its all BIG BS.dont have enough time or space to write everything but please do not attend this fantasy land.Youll pay dearly.Oh and also the instructors will fail you on some classes so they can get some more money out of you, like $3500.00.they do it on purpose, more money for the school or their pockets, Very shady underhaned school,THE PITS!!Student advisors come and go like old socks. They dont deserve to be called a college or university. They should be called Full of Shit!!

  3. People need to grow up. BTW if you fail because of attendance you have to pay. If you fail because of grades you can take the class for free again. Get off the tit and work hard.

  7. I was thinking of letting my son go to Full Sail. I found it disturbing that there were no faculty pages on their website and no credentials listed for instructors. I went to the impressive dog and pony show and was impressed until I asked hard questions...like what are the employment stats, placement, crime stats for the area etc. No one would give me a direct answer. My spider sense started tingling and we looked for a traditional school. Mt State fit the bill and was cheaper. Full Sail looks like a marketing company that pretends to be a school. As a parent, try to call and get a hold of a department head to ask some pointed questions about the program before you think about this school.

  9. I've been contacted by a publication doing a feature story on Full Sail University. The writers are looking for people willing to go "on the record" about the school. Please contact me at nancyeford@gmail.com

  10. I went there until I wasn't feeling well and had to take a leave of absence. I was one of those that was lured in with all the marketing. Went to the behind the scenes tour. Really wanted to attend but couldn't wing the 40 hr a week schedule and commute and take care of a family. When I thought the dream was shot, they emailed me with their online program beginning. I thought it was going to be great. Um, try again. Online is definatly the same as what the students online were given as far as I saw. Inexperienced instuctors that were overworked. When I was feeling the classes seeming a little chincy, i looked more into the school that I thought was so great. I thought they were accredited like all the other universities but were not. They shouldn't even be called a university. Visit the place and you will know why. When I couldn't return, because of health. I am now left with 12K in loans with dept of edu. and a bill I get from Full Sail every month for 8K. FOR WHAT, a year of uneffective education. STAY AWAY!.. I am working on filing all neccessary complaints. I will not pay this money. The online programs you pretty much educate yourself, teacher access was not there. Nancy I am emailing you. Watch that video about it. It is all true!!!!

  12. Why not just avoid "wondering" if this is a scam school and just go to a known university? For my music degree, I went to the University of North Texas, known for their School of Music. I've studied graphic arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara. No worries going to places like these.

  14. People who never went to Full Sail have no business writing reviews on it, especially when their only source of (mis)information is whatever they picked up from some angry flunk-out.

  15. No, I didn't go to Full Sail. I've had potential students ask me about the school because I work in technology myself. I told them the truth, that my company would never hire a Full Sail grad. FS is not regionally accredited because it doesn't meet the academic requirements. Despite what some people may tell you, regional accreditation is the only accreditation that matters. Employers know this. FS grads are competing for jobs against grads from respected, accredited universities. No employer is going to hire a FS grad over a grad from a respected state college and you could attend a state college many times for the price of Full Sail.

I'm writing this review because every person that has wanted to break in to this industry and has asked me about Full Sail has decided to ignore me and instead listen to the rosy stories told by FS advisers. They don't want to listen to me telling them about cold, hard realities, they want to hear stories about how awesome their future will be if they would just write that check to Full Sail.

Every person that has ignored my warnings and attended this school has suffered enormously for doing so. They find themselves with enormous debt and no way to pay off that debt. They find that employers do not consider FS university to be a university at all, but more of a diploma mill.

One young man, who was the son of my wifes best friend attended Full Sail. He was in his mid twenties, didnt do well in High School, was employed, but had a low paying job and was desperate for some direction in life. He was exactly the kind of person that FS targets. In his eyes FS offered him hope that he might have something better. After graduation, he had a huge debt and no way to pay for it as he could hardly get an interview, much less a job. He sunk into a deep depression as there seemed no way out. His mother is very worried about him. Frankly, I dont know what will happen to him.

Now some people will tell you that FS is only as good as you make it. They'll tell you that if you fail to succeed after graduation its your fault, you've been give a great education. Ask yourself why there are so many negative reviews of FS then. You dont see websites hating on Ohio State University or Kentucky State University. Ask yourself why FS isnt regionally accredited if its so great. Call some of the companies that you would like to work for and ask them if they would hire a FS grad.

  16. Above comment why is it that I cannot view your profile, your telling me EA and Bungie go to FS to mess with the students head and get there hopes up? It just seems like your full of it sir, you can go on youtube and look up people doing classes for FS and see what its like for a field of study, the fact of the matter is you said call companies that would hire people who have a degree from FS but yet big companies such as EA and Bungie go there and see what these students have got. Just like a job interview they see what you got if they like it they will hire, its not all about what degree you have it's about what you can bring to the table and what you can offer to the company. So explain to me why EA and Bungie even go there if its such a "scam".

  17. I am a victim of Full Sail University. I attended in 2009 and quickly realized that my student advisor was nothing more than a paid salesman to get me in the door. I finally woke up and bailed on the school but they got the last laugh!! THEY BILLED ME FOR CLASSED I NEVER TOOK!! They are a business as evidenced by T.A. Associates, a private equity firm investing in PROFITABLE businesses, bought into Full Sail in 2011. L.A. Film School, and Rocky Mountain College or Art and Design, which just happen to be co-owned or co-chaired by Full Sail University's CEO Bill Heavener.
